Care for Savannah Kittens

It is important to introduce your kitten slowly to its new home and adapt the kitten to its new environment with the least amount of stress possible.
A good rule of thumb is to keep your kitten in a smaller room such as a bathroom or bedroom. Food and water dishes should be kept close as well as a litter box. Please leave the litter box in the same place to avoid confusion and prevent unnecessary accidents from occurring.

You will need to isolate the kitten from other household pets and everyday family activities. As hard as it may be it’s a good idea to wait a few weeks before you start having visitors meet your new pet. It will also help your kitten to adjust easier if you use the same litter and food in which he/she is accustomed to.
At Ocelli Savannahs, we use Feline Pine Brand Litter and Nature’s Variety Instinct selections of canned chicken, rabbit, duck, and venison.  Nature’s Variety Instinct raw chicken and rabbit also come in frozen form as both patties and nuggets.

For dry food, Nature’s Variety chicken or rabbit kibble as well as Evo kibble are recommended. Please plan to have these available to your new kitten for the first few weeks to help with the transition. Keep fresh water and kibble available in its bowls.  Until about 4 months of age, your kitten will need to eat at least three times a day cutting back to twice a day.

Please have a scratching post for your new kitten and sturdy toys that will not fall apart easily to avoid choking. Savannahs are very curious and will want to investigate their new home, so make sure you watch closely and remove things that could easily break to prevent injury. Savannahs need and crave your interaction, in return they will give back way more and become loyal family members in your home.

Enjoy your new kitten, and never hesitate to contact Ocelli Savannahs if you have any questions.
